Sephora Nano Lip and Eye Liners

$5.00 USD each
Lip liners are that delicate cosmetic that must lay somewhere in the middle of creamy color and dry for duration of wear; luckily, Sephora has found a particularly good median of a formula for just such a product. I've not been much of a lip liner girl (more for the eye liner seeing as I prefer such a nude lip), but one trip to my storefront mecca a while back made me step outside my comfort zone and take notice of these very affordable options. I'm starting to believe in conversion.

Both Sephora Nano Lip Liners I currently own a creamy enough to wear alone with a bit of balm under or over it, but not quite dry enough to last over 4-5 hours. I know most will take long-lasting results over fading-but-hydrating color; I just don't seem to be one of those people, so Nano Liners are a great option (and again, affordable).

Eyeliners, on the other hand, need a good deal more staying power to pass my tests, and again, Sephora has done a good job, in particular, with Gri Gri. I ended up swatching most of the other colors of Sephora Nano Eyeliners and testing how well the pigment smudged, blended, and set on the back of my hand, and Gri Gri came out as the absolute winner. It not only smudged well while leaving a highly pigmented original line but also stayed on my hand through repeated swatching of shadows, etc. overtop of it. As a bonus, I didn't have to rub that hard to remove it even though Gri Gri stayed on until I removed it! Even with oily lids, this stays as dark as applied for eight hours on me.

Gri Gri Eyeliner is, as some of you may already suspect, a dark grey with a matte finish that glides on very easily with medium pigmentation upon first stroke and has buildable pigmentation to very, very dark grey--perfect for a smokey look. Cute Caramel Lip Liner is a neutral beige with orange undertones that gives the appearance of an apricot lipstick over my skin tone, not my natural lip color; Cherry Chestnut is a slightly browned red with orange undertones as well and makes a less in-your-face alternative to the bright red lip possible and easily managed. Both lip liners are matte finishes when blotted down, making them last 5 hours or so under other products.

I guess this photo begs the question, Should I be Two Face for Halloween? I'm not much of a Halloween celebrator myself, but I'll have a bowl of candy ready for the chitlins who pop by incognito--but really I should do some cool makeup, right, seeing as that is part of my profession?! We'll see.

I'm just so impressed with the quality of these little liners (and their sheer portability!) that I want to give them hands-down five stars, but since they aren't waterproof and may prove inefficient for those looking for 8-12 hour wear, I can't give them that rating. I accept this fault in the formula, but personally, for my purposes, I wouldn't change a thing!

  1. the colors look nice. I only have sephora's eyeshadows and I hate them.....

  2. Yeah, Sephora is not a good eyeshadow brand, but elf shadows are similar (take more time to work with, are powdery, and can be a glittery mess). I have to assume that eyeshadows are hard to get right!
